![]() That leaves me with only one option which is to get rid of the motor and get a four stroke, probably a Yamaha. area (Gerard's in New Milford Ct.) who has the diagnostic equipment but I doubt they have platinum level service so I am not confident they have techs who will do anything more than some rudimentary trouble shooting and maybe make a guess or two. I finally have a dealer near me in the Danbury Ct. One member mentioned his problem was a fuel pump but the problem repeated itself and he went through multiple fuel pumps so maybe that is my problem too. dealer who was the last shop to work on it replaced the fuel pump and water pump/impeller plus replaced some wires. The fuel line had no leaks or problems and the bulb was hard through out the entire test. We ran the engine with a fresh battery fully charged and it failed so it was not the battery as it was in 2012. The water was not hot or overheating and there was no steam. The normal amount of water was being pumped through the engine's cooling system and flowing smoothly out the engine port. This morning, when we ran the engine until the fail point, I immediately removed the cover and felt all over the engine for unusual heat and everything was cool enough to touch. ![]() Reminds me of trying to stuff 10lbs of crap into a 5lb bag. The ETEC diagnostics are 18th Century vodoo trying to troubleshoot a 21st Century architecture designed to allow a 2 stroke to meet 4 stroke EPA standards. When an engine is out of warranty, that gets expensive, and I am now out of warranty. We discussed the fact that to be a truly accomplised ETEC maintenance tech you had to understand the engine's system design and even then guess work is required. Most of these problems had no codes in the engine's diagnostics. The same scenario of running fine and then shutting down was attributed by others through actual maintenance actions to be over-heating, fuel pumps, head gaskets, water systems, water pumps and impellars, and my fix of a new battery. I had this same problem back in the winter of 2012 and there is an entire two page thread on the saga. It is an ETEC 25hp, tiller, 15" shaft, electric start. Olypopper, the serial number is #8751972. I will be taking it into an ETEC authorized dealer in my area (Gerard's in New Milford Ct.) so it can be put on the diagnostic computer but I would like to get as much advance info as possible so that we can have a good conversation about this problem. In similar situations what have other users found to be the problem? If the codes have called problems out what were the codes? Any other help welcome. They never called out the battery problem so I am not sure about the codes calling out this problem. When I ran it this morning on rabbit ears it pumps water fine and releases it in a steady stream from the engine area, it idles fine, runs fine in gear but finally shuts down. Let it sit over night and it starts right up and the same scenario unfolds again.įound a poor connection in the fuel line and changed lines but that did not fix it. ![]() Now the engine is starting fine, running perfectly for about 15 minutes and then the computer senses something it does not like and powers the engine down and finally shuts it off and it will not start again. I had the problem previously of the engine shutting down due to a faulty battery drawing off too much power. View Member Profile Find Member's Topics Find Member's Posts Buckīack again.
